Sufia Kamal Public Library, Dhaka

Sufia Kamal Public Library, Dhaka

Overview

Sufia Kamal National Public Library is the largest public library in Bangladesh and under the authority of the central administration of the Department of Public Libraries, under the Ministry of Cultural Affairs. The library is located in Dhaka's Shahbag neighbourhood.

The Sufia Kamal National Public Library in Shahbagh, Dhaka, is currently undergoing a transformative Tk 600 crore modernization project. This initiative replaces the historic 1950s structure—originally designed by the legendary architect Mazharul Islam—with a state-of-the-art, multi-dimensional complex.

Designed by Cubeinside Design Ltd and Dcon Design Studio, the new complex is envisioned as a "cultural hub" that balances traditional reading spaces with advanced digital infrastructure.
